Food was very good but the service was great! Our waiter was attentive, friendly and just generally on top of it! This was our first night out for Portland dining month. Glad we made it in :)

We had a wonderful dinner for two. Our server was gracious and engaging. The shuimai was excellent! I think the crispy Brussel sprouts were my favorite thought.

We booked with Saucebox because reservations were available through open table, and because they did NOT have a limited Valentine’s Day menu listed (other restaurants were doing limited menus for Valentine’s Day) and we were excited about their full menu. When we arrived, they did in fact only have a limited 3-course menu available at $65 a person, which was not mentioned at all on their open table listing for that night. I also received a call the night before to confirm the reservation, but the limited menu was not mentioned. We decided to stay because we knew the food was supposed to be really good, and we didn’t have a reservation anywhere else. The first two courses were tasty, but very small. The main course was good but desperately needed salt. The value for the food was definitely lacking, but at least the dishes tasted good. Our biggest issue, however, was that the courses were spaced out about 45 minutes in between- I’m not sure if this was a server issue or a kitchen issue, but we didn’t even arrive until 8:15 and didn’t receive our entrees until about 9:30, at which point the restaurant was half full. The server seemed to avoid us, rather than addressing the issue, and we were charged $40 for a bottle of wine that was listed on the menu as being $36. Overall, very unimpressed with the lack of communication regarding this reservation. We really just wanted to share a few plates at the bar top (where our reservation was made for), but instead we were tricked into a $130 dinner (plus drinks) in the dining room.

Came for Valentine’s Day. I’ve been here before, I just wasn’t expecting a 60 dollar prix fixe menu. I am disappointed in that. To find this out, I had to search on the menu tab of the website to find the Valentine’s Day menu. It wasn’t clearly posted on the home page of the website not did it say that was the ONLY offering that day. I just booked through opentable expecting my normally great food and dining experience that I have had there in the past. So I was stuck since it was Valentine’s Day and everything in the city was booked up.
