Since 1984, Shaw’s Crab House has earned its status as a Chicago icon with its unwavering commitment to quality and warm, dedicated staff. This generational restaurant embodies timeless seafood traditions inspired by America's coastal crab houses, creating a classic dining experience that stands the test of time. Signature dishes include King Crab Legs, oysters from both coasts, hand-rolled sushi, fresh fish, and more. The restaurant's 1940s-style design features two distinct dining rooms: the lively, casual Oyster Bar and the elegant, white-tablecloth Main Dining Room. Guests who reserve "Hightop" seating will dine in the Oyster Bar, while "Standard" seating is for the Main Dining Room.

    I miei genitori sono rimasti piacevolmente colpiti da tutto..cibo, atmosfera e cordialità del personale! Hanno anche ricevuto una gradita sorpresa per il loro anniversario..! Consigliato!

    I’m not a big seafood eater but my wife is and so I chose Shaw’s for her birthday dinner. As I expected of an establishment of Shaw’s caliber, the ambience and service were excellent. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. As far as food, the dinner rolls were perfect and literally melt in your mouth. For appetizers, we had calamari, oysters and lobster bisque. I only tried the calamari which was seasoned ok but didn’t come with a dipping sauce (marinara???) which I thought was a standard thing. The oyster and lobster bisque eaters said that those appetizers were good. For main course I had a filet mignon with mushrooms and crispy Brussels sprouts. Wife had the seafood sampler. MIL had a lobster roll. One kid had the kids burger while the other had surf and turf. Overall the food was good. My steak was cooked perfectly but taste wise I’d give it a “B” grade. Wife thought her seafood was good and she would definitely go back to Shaw’s but thought the food was better at a different local high-end seafood restaurant that we tried last year. I agree. MIL and kid 2 enjoyed their meals. As far as kid 1, he didn’t not enjoy his cheese burger. Took one bite and then stopped eating. Didn’t complain (cause he’s a good kid), but me knowing how picky he can be, I asked kid 2 to try his brothers burger. Kid 1 took one bite and agreed that the burger tasted weird. The fries that came with the burger were great but as far as the burger itself, it got a big thumbs down from my 2 kids. As far as the sides, mushrooms were fine (though I did think they tasted a little weird) the Brussels sprouts were awesome. Probably the favorite thing I ate. Overall, I’d go back to Shaw’s and recommend it to others as a good but not as good alternative to the other high-end seafood places in River North.

    This is a two-part review: Part 1: My wife and I took a close friend here to celebrate her birthday. We had a delightful evening. Attentive service, excellent food, an outstanding Oregon pinot noir, and a complimentary slice of chocolate cake adorned with a candle. Tab came to nearly $600 and worth every penny of it. Five stars ***** Part 2: My wife left her phone at the restaurant--not the first time--and went back this morning to retrieve it. Phone, driver's license and credit cards were all there. Unfortunately, someone on Shaw's staff had helped them to the roughly $140-160 that was in the phone case. One star* I won't be back.
