With over 20 years of experience in the kitchen, Nicholas McCann, now Executive Chef of Society Cafe, has always been passionate about food. Drawing inspiration from his family recipes, Nicholas quickly fell in love with the culinary world at a young age and began his career at The French Culinary Institute in NYC. Since then, he has worked with some of the city’s most acclaimed chefs and restaurants, including working alongside Chef Luis Bollo of Salinas before moving on to become an Executive Chef at TESSA, The Milling Room, and Corkbuzz.

At Society Cafe, Chef Nicholas flexes his creativity by bringing a fresh perspective to the restaurant’s ‘market-to-table’ concept. With a rotating seasonal menu reflective of the city’s local farmers and markets, guests can expect to experience Chef Nicholas’ unique culinary creations alongside its intimate & classic art deco inspired space.

I have visited this place many times over the years but unfortunately though the ambiance and the food is still very good, I was irritated by how the service staff member cleared my plate of food before I was finished all the bites on my plate. I felt like this needs to be improved a bit.

Had a good Thanksgiving dinner at Society Cafe. Beautiful, atmospheric space evocative of the 1920s. Food was very good. The experience was nice and would have been perfect except for a few mistakes, i.e., not bringing the side dishes we ordered until we were done, at which point we no longer wanted them. I’d still rate it highly and would go back.

Good overall. Nice cozy hidden gem in the Village by The New School.

We have been there several times and this time it felt different. The waiters were not as nice and attentive as other times and we felt rushed. Maybe it was because they had a large table afterwards. Also, the orange juice was dreadful.

We will make sure to bring it to their attention that this was something out of character that was noticed by returning guests. We appreciate you specifically mentioning the Orange Juice and will look into it right away. We do juice oranges here so hopefully it was just a small batch of oranges that weren't up to par, but this time of year we can never be too vigilant. Our waitstaff was very pleasant. I loved my burger. Menu had enough choices for those in my group who wanted something traditional as well as for those who wanted to try something a little different (sticky rice starter). Felt comfortable in the room. Would visit again.

Service was outstanding. They offered to move us from a table to a booth, which we accepted. Great wine and ambience. Highly recommend as a date spot!

Meal was okay, but nothing out of ordinary. My wife ordered strip steak but asked for half portion which waiter said couldn't be done, but when served it was in two pieces. So could have saved half which she didn't eat. Very noisy room.

Hi Mike, We realize that it can be frustrating when there is more food than you can eat and acknowledge that finding the right portion size can be a real challenge. We do have some considerations that restrict us to serve only a complete and full dish. Please do not hold it against your waiter. Our Chef puts a lot of care and attention into composing our menu offerings, he works with farms and specialty purveyors to get the best ingredients and with extremely few exceptions everything is cooked from scratch. We apologize that our limitations did not fit your needs and hope that you understand. Hoping that you have a wonderful day and that you consider coming back and giving some of our smaller dishes a chance.
