An Iberian take on the classic American all-day restaurant, Spanish Diner features larger portions of Spanish favorites from the mind of award-winning chef José Andrés. Dishes like gambas al ajillo, croquetas de pollo, gazpacho, and patatas bravas are all on the menu, along with a focus on regional specialties like fabada asturiana and cocido madrileño. Egg dishes are a specialty with classics like the iconic tortilla española, huevos estrellados, and huevos revueltos. Día de Reyes, or Three Kings Day, is inspired by the story of the Three Wise Men – Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltasar – who brought gifts to the baby Jesus in the days after he was born. In Spain, this holiday is celebrated with even more excitement (at least by children!) than Christmas, as it’s the day when kids receive gifts and eat Roscón de Reyes. Chef José’s Roscón de Reyes is flavored with orange blossom, caramelized cherries, oranges, and almonds. Please specify if you would like your cake without whipped cream when placing your order. Each Roscón de Reyes has a “Rey” (king) figurine baked inside. Whoever finds the King is said to have good luck for the rest of the year!

Food fresh but nothing special. Only three tables occupied but still we had to ask four personnel for help. Small portions for the price Overall a disappointing lunch. Especially because it is Jose Andres Can’t recommend it to others. Sorry

Disappointing. Portions were stingy. Iberian Platter had 4 paper thin slices of cheese and assorted meats. No garnish, no extras like olives, pickles, nuts. Sangria was mostly ice and nothing special. On entree, beans were dry and flavorless. Plating was nonexistent with a pile of marinated peppers clumped on the plate. Restaurant is billed as comfort food. My impression was leftovers thoughtlessly prepared. No joy sparked. One positive - Jose Andres World kitchen was supported.

I want to like the Spanish Diner because it’s a convenient location, but I’ve been a few times and it’s not great. Some dishes are good - shrimp in garlic, pork meatballs, Bibb salad with roasted red pepper; others were bland - beef stew, branzino. The servers were extremely nice and attentive but the whole dining experience was too fast. We were done in 40 minutes! The food came out so fast. I would have had a 2nd drink but we were done before the waitress asked. There seemed no point. It’s a cute spot but I won’t go back. I wish it were better.

The Clementine salad we shared as an entree was refreshing and tasty. We both had the chicken stew “pollo guisado con arroz” from the “abuelo” (Jose’s grandparents recipes) and enjoyed it immensely the service was prompt.

The restaurant was relatively empty, but the hostess sat us right next to a couple; why not give us at least one table of space? Only a little thought was given to the ambiance, as the restaurant's temperature was also freezing. They moved us to another table as we wanted to watch a soccer match in the bar area above. Our waiter was excellent, food is always lovely.
