Our experience at Starfish was mixed. I really enjoy small, shareable plates and Asian fusion cuisine. The food and drink we tried was indeed very tasty and served quite quickly in spite of the fact that the restaurant and bar were packed (at 5:00). (Definitely make a reservation!) But the noise level made conversation basically impossible, and for me that makes it a less than satisfying experience. Glad we went during the daily “Opium Hour,” such that prices were significantly reduced. However I’m also uncomfortable calling their Happy Hour (3-6 daily) the “Opium” Hour. There is nothing cute about the abuse of opioids in this country! All in all, glad we checked it out, but won’t need to try it again.

I recently dined at Starfish Laguna Beach during restaurant week, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The service was a major letdown; we waited an unusually long time for our waiter to bring us soy sauce for the sushi, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, he forgot to put in our order for the entrée entirely. As for the food, it did not live up to expectations. The sushi was mediocre at best, lacking the freshness and flavor one would hope for. The entrees, when they finally arrived, were equally disappointing and didn’t justify the high prices, especially during restaurant week when many places offer special deals. Overall, I left feeling dissatisfied with both the service and the food quality. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant based on my experience; there are definitely better options out there that offer both good food and attentive service. I will never go back to this place anymore.

Our whole experience at Starfish Laguna was simply incredible down to every detail. Our server Leslie was so kind, fun, and knowledgeable. Our food was impeccable, came out quickly, and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.

So we walked in for our reservations and there were 4 hostesses at the counter and not a single one of them acknowledged us, then finally did and took us to a high top table very close and personal to others, when there were plenty of open tables. We didn’t get seen for 15 mins so we just got up and left. We love starfish but this was a bad experience.

OC restaurant week was truly the best week ever. Starfish had one of the best deals & was booked out because of it!! Got amazing, large portioned food for almost half the price! I am a big fan of their Opium hour. Love both locations in Newport & Laguna

Went to Starfish during OC restaurant week, with a good section of price fix options. Drucken Noodles, Bha mi sliders, fried rice and my favorite the wet baby back ribs. Our server Claire was very accommodating and provided containers for the items we did not finish. Since we were satisfied with what we ordered and could not eat another bite, Claire provided our deserts to go.
