Tucked away in the heart of former spa town Matlock, Stones is a cosy restaurant serving modern British cuisine. The restaurant’s interior is smart and intimate while the kitchen marries British produce with recipes inspired by international cuisine. Don’t be fooled by the apparent simplicity of the seasonal lunch and dinner menus, every dish demonstrates the culinary imagination, technique and flair of the vibrant kitchen team, led by head chef Kevin Stone. The additional tasting menu offers eight courses partnered with a carefully selected optional flight of wine. Catering for all dietary requirements, Stones offer distinct vegetarian and GF menu. Diners can enjoy views overlooking the coursing waters of the River Derwent.                           Interesting, seasonal and local menu. Elegant yet relaxed service, staff friendly, helpful and informative without being intrusive. Lovely surroundings. For us, the fact that the table is yours for the service makes it a very relaxing experience from start to finish. We don't go often, but when we do it's always memorable for all the right reason.

                          We have eaten in many top restuarants 3 michelin star, this is not our first time to Stones but the meal was as always outstanding. Cooked to perfection the taster menu and the choice of wines chosen to accompany fantastic. Stones in our opinion is equal to anywhere we have eaten in the UK and abroad. Tables are set with taste giving you an all round dining experiance. We will be looking to book again very soon, not leaving it as long this time. Waitress service was excellent with a clear view and explanation what was being presented. well done Stones.

                          We have never been disappointed when visiting Stines. The staff are lovely and are able to answer any questions. The ambience is pleasant - music in the background is not intrusive. The food is excellent - creative and prepared to perfection. Portions are exactly the right size and presentation is elegant.

                          Just as good as ever. We were a little worried after the recent spate of reviews criticising portion sizes. I don't know where those people normally eat, but I'd guess that they always stop on the way home for chips. Portion sizes are normal for a restaurant of this type. I wouldn't have minded an option to add some more veg, but that's a separate matter...
