Sweet Auburn BBQ is located in the historic Poncey-Highland neighborhood, near the Fox Theatre, Ponce City Market, and Fernbank Museum. The well designed dining space features reclaimed antiques and custom lighting, making it the ideal place for a dinner date or business lunch. Their sidewalk patio is a dog friendly too.

Sweet Auburn Barbecue offers traditional style barbecue with an Asian twist. Our menu items, such as Pimento cheese wontons, Gulf Coast Shrimp & Grits and Smoked Brisket Eggrolls, demonstrate the perfect marriage of traditional and innovative styles that Sweet Auburn Barbecue has become known for. Accolades include Best BBQ from AJC.com and Atlanta Magazine, and features in Thrillist, Eater, the Washington Post and Huffington Post. Most of the menu is sourced from local, Georgia farms and features many vegetarian options too. The full-service bar serves unique craft cocktails and beers, specializing in whiskey & beer.

    Sweet Auburn BBQ features delicious BBQ and southern classics with an Asian twist, a nod to sibling owners Howard and Anita Hsu’s cultural upbringing. The concept originated as a food truck and operated a counter at the Municipal Market (historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market) before taking over the brick-and-mortar previously housing Pura Vida in 2014. Sweet Auburn BBQ has locations in Atlanta (Poncey-Highland) and McDonough. Make sure to park in the parking deck across from the restaurant to receive validated parking; otherwise, you will have to pay a grip to park. Sweet Auburn’s smoked wings are a popular delivery item in my household. But my husband and I finally made an in-person visit for the February 2024 Indo-Chinese Dinner, a collaboration with popular pop-up Dhaba BBQ, The Chai Box, and highly heralded new Doraville soju tasting room Minhwa Spirits. We ordered: From the Specialty Menu: Curry Brisket Bao, Brisket Rendang From the Regular Menu: Pimento Cheese Wontons, Two Item Combo Plate (pulled chicken, smoked wings, Thai Chile Brussels Sprouts, mac and cheese), Jade Claw We did not have a bad bite! The pulled chicken was surprisingly moist and flavorful, the brisket tender, and the Brussels sprouts were spectacular. An added benefit was that the Brisket Rendang was so flavorful as a leftover. Needless to say, we will be back (word on the street is that the Banana Pudding is a must-eat), and Sweet Auburn BBQ has crept onto my ATL BBQ favorite list.

    Sweet Auburn BBQ is always a delicious experience. It's always a tough decision on what to choose, because all the options are so good. Looking forward to trying another menu item on the next visit.

    We eat at Sweet Auburn every couple of months and enjoy the quality and variety of the fo and good service. Almost always we dine with friends. Conversation is a key part of our dining experience. Background music frequently does not add to the quality of our dining experience. Yesterday we asked for the speaker near our table to be moderated and it was.

    This was one of the most amazing places I have ever eaten. The food tasted so good, and homemade—it felt like I was over someone’s house getting some comfort food. True, authentic, southern cooking. The service was amazing. Everyone was very welcoming and hospitable.

    A neighborhood gem! Stopped in for the New Year’s plate. I had the pulled pork with black-eyed peas, collards greens and cornbread, and everything was excellent!

    Sweet Auburn is our "go to" for barbecue. In addition, the jalapeno cornbread and the pimento wontons are outstanding This is a very friendly neighborhood restaurant that never fails to be inimate with very peronalized service.

    Went on a rainy Monday night. Greeted and seated immediately. Great margaritas and awesome wings!!! Service was spot on - timely, sweet but not hovering. Nice to have covered and validated (free) parking right across the street. We’ll be back!
