Welcome to Tahona! We are the first mezcal bar and tasting room in San Diego. In our restaurant, we invite you to taste our incredible craft cocktails and our amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine featuring Oaxacan bites. In our tasting room, we welcome you to indulge on a mezcal tasting experience!

We are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda designed with hand painted tiles, handmade rope seats, traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca, hand clayed walls and more.

We also have a cozy covered outdoor patio dining experience so you will have the choice to dine inside our hacienda or on the streets of Old Town!

A wonderful date night compliments of our Chef Adrian Villarreal. This is a 3 course meal for $95 for 2 people, with an array of appetizers to start your dinner, followed by your choice of 2 entrees, and finished with a wonderful dessert. This dinner also will include 2 of our made from scratch cocktails, beer, or wine! While dining at Tahona, you will have wonderful live music to set that atmosphere for a perfect date night!

Come ring in the New Year with some delicious food and agave focused beverages! As you enter, there will be a special, celebration welcome cocktail for you! From there, let Executive Chef Adrian Villarreal take your taste buds on a tour of Oaxaca and Baja with a special 4 Course meal. Chef Adrian will be personally pairing special mezcals for each course to be added if wanted. We will also be toasting in the New Years (East and West Coast) with a champagne toast at 9:00 and 12:00. Came here because a gift card and with every course we were blown away - the food was absolutely amazing! Each plate is carefully thought out with complex flavors and lovely presentation. And the service and ambiance equally great. We definitely will be back!

The food at Tahona was some of the best I’ve had. Very carefully prepared, creative without being pretentious. Lots of authentic flavors, definitely not your typical Mexican food. They explain about the sourcing of the ingredients, and it was just an awesome experience. (The Pozole was the “hidden gem”, very different from anything I’ve ever had, and it was fantastic.)

Made a last minute reservation here because we were in the area for an event and we were interested by the menu. We had tacos: mushroom/cauliflower (outstanding!) carnitas (very good) birria (amazing) fish (very good) chips/salsa/house guac (very small portion) the guac itself was just ok but a very small portion as are the tacos-very tiny. Mole was stand out good as well as the salsa verde. We had a mezcal cocktail that was very tasty/unique as well. My youngest son had a quesadilla -not on menu and we appreciated the add for us-although in true kid fashion he didn’t like it. Ha! This is a good place for drinks and bites with friends or a date. Definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here very hungry as portions are small and pricey. For me I’m ok with paying more for great food so we were happy with the find here in old town where most of the places are toursity vs. authentic.

Charming restaurant and bar in old town. Sat at the friendly bar, and enjoyed a cocktail, and a flight of great mezcal along with Tacos, and house special guacamole and chips/salsas. All food was presented nicely and was fresh and delicious. Very fun place.

Food was just OK hit and miss. Servings were small which is fine but they lacked in flavor. Overall more let down with the food than pleased. Would not return with other options in the area equally priced but better tasting food.
