I chose this place because of the reviews that talked about great service, unfortunately i was disappointed. It felt like the 2 of us were being ignored all night. Trying to get a second piece of bread seemed much more difficult than it should have been. Our wine arrived after the dinner was served to us. There just was nothing special here. The food was good but nothing outstanding,,.the baked French onion was warm but not hot like i prefer. I had the $95 ribeye and is was just good. The French fries were greasy and a bit undercooked. My GF had a wonderful piece of halibut and she enjoyed the creamed spinach. I would try this place again, but i would hope for a better evening out. The servers, which i find so critical to a nice meal, were inattentive and just did not seem motivated. That goes for the dining room upstairs and the bar downstairs where we went for dessert.

Lovely holiday decor and outstanding food. Service was a little slow this visit but extremely friendly. Our large party had a wonderful time.

This was my first time back at the Tavern in awhile. I love the ambience of this local gem but a few things were off this time. It was a busy Friday night during the holiday season and it felt like it. Service felt very rushed and very basic. My steak was a little tougher than previous visits so it feels like quality has gone down a bit. There were no specials and the menu is largely unchanged. It would be nice to see a little more creativity while still keeping the classics. Overall not the most memorable visit this time around. Hopefully it was just due to a busy night but with so many new restaurants in Vernon Hills, including Perry’s the Tavern needs to step it up. I far prefer the ambiance of the Tavern and the local vibe, but the service and food quality needs to redeem itself.

Excellent service and they didn’t rush us. The food was outstanding. Great ambiance. Would recommend the calamari as an appetizer, prime aged filet and the spinach as a side.

Great place, my reason for not giving all five stars is the shells were on the gulf shrimp, which I had to remove before I could eat my food. I did inquire afterwards and was told next time they could remove them for me. Maybe I overlooked it in the menu, but wish this would have been communicated upfront. Otherwise great experience with a rich ambience, and the service was excellent..
