---The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, now run by the fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. Today's Berghoff menus have evolved to add newer, lighter, and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. In December 2018, the Berghoff family opened Adams Street Brewery, aptly named after the street they have called home for over a century, to nod to their brewing roots and commemorate the restaurant's 120th anniversary.

    Larry was an excellent waiter. Had great German food. The root beer was a nice treat to end the evening.

    Beautiful room (century) Regular customer here- service was slow! Food order wrong ..entree warm but NOT hot (obviously sitting for awhile) ... Fries were super hot & delicious when brought out.

    I had the weinerschnitzel and my husband had the schlachteplatte -- mine was better than his but we both felt they were underseasoned. Service was extremely fast and attentivr, and you can't beat the jnside of the Berghoff for history and ambience.

    The food was average at best except the potato pancake appetizer. The Rueben sandwich had minimal corned beef and the goulash was very spicy.

    As good as we remembered it! If you like German food, this is the place to go. Berghoff is part of Chicago history. The onion soup is outstanding. The rest of our meal was great. Service was excellent. Great selection of draft beers from their brewery.

    For a Chicago institution, The Berfghoff left a lot to be desired. The food we tried was average - nothing wrong, but definitely nothing special. It left the impression of cafeteria style, assembly line preparation. The service as crisp and impersonal - got the job done and nothing more. The ambiance was clinging to the former glory of a once beautiful room that was overly lit and not trying to give the guest any type of experience. It good place to go if you want a quick, filling meal that may or may not have flavor or finesse.

    The chicken spätzle soup was perfect on a cold day! Really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy substitute, and even the creamed spinach was delicious!
