The Black Grape - a new small plate restaurant located on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Expect small plates, wine & good times in a stunning setting. This custom designed wine bar & restaurant is the ideal setting for intimate date night dining, drinks with friends or a quick snack as you people watch in the heart of the city. Our menu is a gastronomic tour de force with inspiration from around the globe. One thing unites all our dishes however - bold, punchy flavours and plates that are perfect for sharing. Beautiful restaurant with lovely staff but we felt the value for money wasn’t there and some dishes were very bland. There were also a few substitutions ( the passion fruit negroni wasn’t available and neither was the focaccia) which were explained politely and apologised for, but it was a bit disappointing given how small the menu was already. Wouldn’t hurry back.

We ordered small plates which were all good. Very tasty, especially enjoyed the truffle. Drank a good few cocktails each. Staff were fab, pleasant, attentive and helpful. Would return there. Thanks to the staff for working New Years Eve x

A lovely environment, super friendly staff and the food was unbelievable. A tapas style small plate service with haute cuisine flavours. The trout was stunning and the lasagne croquettes were perfect comfort food after weathering the Edinburgh rain.

A great space in the centre of Edinburgh’s Old Town, it’s an oasis amidst the tourist trail! The small plates are interesting and tasty, drinks are good - and there’s a decent selection of non-alcohol options also. The space is airy and the design is stylish. And the staff are lovely - attentive but not oppressively so!

My partner and I visited The Black Grape on Christmas Eve and had the pleasure of trying their festive menu. It was an unforgettable experience! The attention was absolutely wonderful; the staff was incredibly kind and attentive at all times, creating a warm and welcoming holiday atmosphere. Coming from Spain, we were excited to try something new, and the festive menu exceeded all our expectations. Every dish was a delightful surprise, full of unique flavors that were completely different from what we're used to back home. Each bite was crafted with care and truly captured the spirit of the season. If you're looking for excellent food and top-notch service, especially during the holidays, The Black Grape is the place to go. Highly recommended!

The food is excellent and really enjoyed every dish, full of flavour and loved sharing different plates. The lighting is too bright in the restaurant and it affected the ambiance of a meal out with my partner. The main issue I have is the service which was an absolute shambles. The restaurant wasn’t full, dined on 23.12.24. Australian waiter took a while to bring menus and water / take drinks orders, he was overly and unnecessarily chatty . When we ordered dessert I opted for the chocolate cake. At point of ordering I wasn’t told it wasn’t available. They brought me some caramel cheesecake thing, not even remotely similar to what I ordered. When I challenged this the waiter didn’t deal with it swiftly and simply waffled on about the reasoning behind it. I order something else and they took two glasses of wine off the bill. I don’t go out for dinner to get money off, I simply want good food with good service, on this occasion that seemed to be too difficult for The Black Grape. I would return for the food but they need to make adjustments in other areas.

Everything was incredibly delicious and every single staff member we had the pleasure of interacting with was so lovely and welcoming. We had such a lovely anniversary spent here.
