The Black Penny Covent Garden is a unique cosy café, with bare brick walls, only a stones throw away from Covent Garden. Gourmet brunch is at the heart of what The Black Penny is famous for. Signature dishes include 'The Hunter' & 'The Gatherer', which is our take on the full English breakfast. Other signature dishes include 'Wild Mushroom Polenta Hash', 'Salt Beef' and 'Crispy Duck' hashes (try pairing with some of our fine wines and Penny cocktails). If you fancy something sweet try 'The Brioche French Toast'. Speciality coffee created at the hands of the skilled baristas is what keeps regulars coming back for their daily caffeine fix. In the mornings through lunch you can expect The Black Penny to be a popular go to café. The Black Penny values sustainability, therefore we work closely with London's best companies to ensure we meet these values.     Very busy little place where we had brunch. Poached eggs on toast were great. Frustratingly, no WiFi. Had no intention of using a laptop (noted the sign saying ‘laptop free zone!!!’), but as the 5G reception was also poor, couldn’t even use my phone to research our next stops in London.

    Brilliant brunch, loved it and great decor. Think it literally must’ve just been painted. Think the waitress misunderstood after we asked for the bill from another waiter and they came back saying we needed to leave because they needed the table back (20 mins after our reservation time… we did arrive a bit early) but put that down to a misunderstanding. Overall great experience, high quality ingredients, tad pricey but probably par for the course for the location.

    Fabulous place for brunch and always eat here at least once when I’m in London! Staff always cheerful, friendly & helpful and the food NEVER disappoints! Truly wonderful!

    The staff and service at the Black Penny are fantastic and the brunch menu is excellent with the food superb! The mushroom, spinach and polenta hash with a poached egg was brilliant. A super mix of mushrooms and a corned chicken egg with it's beautiful yolk. Altogether delicious. The meaty full breakfast similarly excellent on good sourdough toast and the black penny beans are delicious. There is loads more to explore on the menu - we hope to be back.
