AA 2 Rosette restaurant. The Forge Restaurant in Chester is one of Chester’s best restaurants with delicious food and unrivalled service. With a passion for wild, sustainable British ingredients, and a love of simple cooking over fire and charcoal. The Forge has its kitchen front and centre in the middle of this lovely, and elegant space. Incredible dry-aged beef and wild venison will be found in the maturation cabinets, awaiting their turn on the amazing forge grill, to be lovingly grilled and roasted over beech logs. Head chef Dan Regan, a passionate chef, heads up the young, vibrant team in the kitchen. Combining amazing, wild, sustainable ingredients from land and sea into sumptuous creations that form really memorable eating experiences. We focus on British ingredients, as local to Chester. Our venison, always a hugely popular part of our menus, is harvested from herds on estates that focus on improving biodiversity and deer health – a process we call Farming the Wild.

On a bleak cold January evening, it was good to spend some time at the Forge. The place was not busy and I had a booth-style table to myself. Service was quick, but did not feel pressurised and the staff were friendly and helpful. The quality of the food was very good - my venison was tender and nicely pink in the centre, although the accompanying rosti was a bit on the crisp side. Portions however were not very generous which was surprising given the price and the speciality of the restaurant seems to be large sharing steaks (which limits choice for a single diner) It was good however to be able to have a carafe (375ml) of wine - just the right amount for a single (not driving!) diner. A good experience, although not perfect.

Our experience at the restaurant was wonderful- both food and staff faultless. The staff very attentive and the food great, the steaks were cooked to perfection.

Food was good quality but starter too small. Main meal too salty. Dessert was nothing special. The service was good. Poor ambiance no Xmas spirit. All in all very disappointing.

Beautiful food, moderately priced. Quite noisy but was very busy. Very small table in middle of room, no very intimate. But a good overall experience

Had the 3 course set menu today with a glass of fizz followed by a nice Malbec. The food was so delicious. All courses were flavoursome, and the service was excellent. Friendly staff and great chefs. Been a few times now. Highly recommend 👌.
