The Hemingway is a good quality pub that serves delicious no-nonsense grub.


You can see every dish being made to order in our open plan kitchen- no soggy microwaved frozen meals here! We take great care in sourcing our produce direct from the best suppliers both locally and abroad. Our menu is a mix of classic crowd pleasers and regularly changing seasonal dishes, which means you'll always find something to tempt your taste buds (even if you're in every day!).


We are a pub, not a cocktail bar and while we make a blinding Bloody Mary, and will happily mix you an Aperol Spritz or Negroni, we don't do Pina Coladas. That said, we are extremely proud of our wide range of spirits from around the globe, which (where possible) we offer at affordable prices. The wine list has been chosen to provide a simple but high quality selection that goes as well with our food as it does with some good company.

                                                      It’s a great pub but choose your days, it was busy and this means service and timings are stretched. Food was excellent to be fair but staff are pushed.

                                                      Roast was disappointing, ingredients were cheap, meat and potatoes were overcook and Yorkie was dripping in fat. Won’t be coming again for the roast but would try the other food as atmosphere and staff are great

                                                      We love the Hemmingway, it’s our local pub and we have Sunday roast whenever we can. The roast is fantastic, one of the best in Hackney, everything is cooked nicely. The service is amazing. However, today we were really disappointed. The plates used to come so full of food, meat, vegetables, potatoes, that it made it look small for so much food. Today, there were just a few vegetables, really little quantity; some of us ordered the beef, and there was not enough meat. The kids menu was even worse. It has two really tiny pieces of meat, I had to give my child some of mine be abuse it just wasn’t enough. I was so surprised to see the plate with less food. The chicken roast was delicious too, just not as many vegetables as it used to have. It’s a shame, because it used to be one of the best quality/quantity/ value Sunday roast in the area, and it is not anymore.

                                                      We had a lovely Sunday Roast here. The place was very busy and the noise levels were high, but service was pretty fast and the food was delicious. Sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble were a delicious sweet treat to finish!

                                                      Booked a table for 4pm for a Sunday roast, when we arrived it wasn't ready as someone else was sitting there so were told to grab a drink and wait. Finally seated at 4.20, told at 4.30 we couldn't order yet as the kitchen was busy. At 5pm we asked again if we could order to be told the kitchen were no longer serving roasts anymore. Very disappointing.

                                                      Thoroughly enjoyed our visit last Sunday. Had the beef wellington which was delicious! Really tender meat and great portions. Wonderful service too. Shall be back!!
