The Old Guinea provides a completely unique dining experience, combining genuine Italian cuisine with breathtaking views of rural Hertfordshire. The Old Guinea, dates back to 1826 and is located between Shenley and Potters Bar and is a blend of tradition and modernity.

Our restaurant embraces classic Italian dishes as well as innovative new flavours and is complemented by an eclectic cocktail and wine menu. We are a family-run, family-friendly restaurant that serves excellent homemade cuisine, fresh ingredients, professional service, and a welcoming ambience.

We are open all day from 8.30 a.m. serving a delicious breakfast in the morning and continuing with our all-day menu from midday in our beautiful Garden Room and restaurant, dogs are welcome in The Floral Bar and in our large garden when weather permits.

We had a fantastic experience at the restaurant with a group of nine during the festive period. The staff were incredibly attentive and managed everything smoothly despite the busy atmosphere. Food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect for our celebration. Highly recommend!

It's the excellent welcoming service that makes it most enjoyable to eat here (lovely Italian waitress served us but everyone was friendly). Food is tasty, lively location.

We went at 4.30pm on the Sunday so less crowded and noise level moderate. By 6.30pm virtually full but we were leaving then. Really enjoy eating there

Very busy lunch service with xmas parties so a bit of a problem getting parked. Otherwise the service and food was excellent again.

Disappointed by my most recent visit, the breakfast (I order the same every time) didn’t look or taste as good, service was slow and our coffees weren’t as expected - flat white more like a cappuccino in a large cup and cappuccino in a small cup - but we were assured that was right. Service was slow and not as attentive even though it wasn’t busy. I will give it another go as it’s always been so good in the past, but I wouldn’t rush back. Wondering if there’s been a change of owner/chef?

The food was excellent, and the staff were lovely, friendly, and polite. However, the service was quite slow. We had to wait a long time for plates to be cleared, to order dessert, and then again for the bill. This made the meal take much longer than it should have. Although there were plenty of staff on hand, this is an area that could be improved. Additionally, the starters didn’t arrive together but came out in bits, which disrupted the flow of the meal. That said, everything else was great, and I would definitely return. Hopefully, the speed of service will have improved by then!

Good Afternoon, thank you very much for taking the time to review us, we are very glad you found the staff accommodating and friendly and we do apologise for the slower service on this occasion, we are in the transition stage of changing over to a new systems & tills and have been closed 4 days this week for extensive refurbishment work in the kitchen which will be great when re-open!
