For those who love their afternoon teas fresh, fragrant and steeped in history, Palm Court at The Drake Hotel serving tea for over a century. Even the Queen and Princess Diana have made their royal visits here. Your afternoon tea begins with Palais de Thes menu, which features 15 tea blends including classic selections like the English Breakfast to modern yet delightful twists like the Mélange du Cap.
Tea is served in individual tea pots accompanied by the traditional three tiered tea tray filled with an arrangement of gourmet finger sandwiches and scones; and dainty petit fours with complements of preserves, lemon curd and English double Devon cream.
And let’s not forget about our little tea. The Prince & Princess Afternoon tea service, suitable for children between 3 and 12 years of age is available throughout the duration of afternoon tea service.
Reservations are heavily encouraged.

Holiday tea in Palm Court is a Real Chicago tradition for generations of families during the holiday season. A seating in Palm Court places you near the iconic fountain adorned with holiday flora and overlooking the lobby Christmas tree and gingerbread display, guests will sip quintessential tea while reveling in the spirit of the season. A live harpist will play for all seating times, with holiday carolers performing on select dates through Christmas. Reservations are heavily encouraged. Full tea service seating duration is 90 minutes max.

We went for the holiday tea experience. There was a harpist playing and carolers came through. The food was pretty good, and they offered us more of whatever we wanted which i’ve never experienced at a tea before. Definitely left full and satisfied. It was pretty loud. There were lots of people and kids running around. I know their holiday tea is pretty popular. Other than a few seasonal tea options and the carolers of course, there wasn’t anything particularly themed about the tea experience itself. Overall, we had a great time and felt that this tea more than others was a good value for the price.

Unfortunately, we were placed in a room entirely alone- away from everyone.. and apparently away from the carolers. They skipped over our table twice and never came to sing. We were already disappointed not realizing we wouldnt be in the Palm Court room, but were very sad to be placed in a room away from everyone. It was very isolating. Tea was great and food was okay.

The ambiance is still lovely and the wait staff is outstanding, but the food quality just doesn't hold up to the insane pricing. It used to be much better, but has gone down significantly in recent years. Too bad - the setting is gorgeous.

What a special experience to have tea at the holidays …The CAROLERS were so festive and the harpist, divine. The service was outstanding. We had Javier as our waiter and he couldn’t have been more accommodating even though it was so busy. The star of the day was Chris, at the front door. There was a long wait to get our car that we valeted, but he entertained everyone . He made everyone feel so special, took photos, was just the bright star of the day. He is a gift for the Drake! A five star experience for sure!

We were seated promptly at 11:00 when the event started. Most of the foods were very good; one of the little cakes was a bit tough, required a knife to break apart. Service was good, but I was surprised that there is usually a charge to change to a different type of tea than I started with. They said they’d make an exception for me, and I was not charged extra, but at other tea places I’ve visited one can sample several types of tea in one sitting. It’s almost expected. But on the whole I enjoyed the event very much.

My family and I had a wonderful time at the Drake Palm Court. The sharp player and carolers were wonderful! The tea and food were delicious, and the service was excellent! We have made this our yearly tradition and look forward to it every Christmas.
