                                                          Arrived on time for a paid reservation but seated 20 minutes late while being told we had a 90 minute maximum on our dinner. Service was slow with excessive wait between entree and desert (was a coursed menu) Food was just OK. Appetizers were good but entrees were not. Cocktails were good. We were not permitted preference on how steak was cooked. Would never complain about OK food and slow service except that this meal was extremely expensive and gratuity was included (total over 800 dollars) so expectations were higher than normal. The included gratuity was also calculated on the pre-paid table fee which felt inappropriate. We complained about the service and they removed the gratuity, which was nice but it made us feel like we stiffed a nice (just inattentive) server out of income on what should be a high earning night. (Valentines) Would have been better handled by comping a menu item or table fee rather than tip.

                                                          Food was very small portions and average at best. I understand it was valentines Day, but the staff was in a hurry for us to place an order and rush us out. The price for the quality and quantity was outrageous. Deserts we very poor, chocolate cake tasted like cheap sugar. Not even good chocolate taste. We will not return .

                                                          For a $750 dollar bill, I expected my food to be good. It was a 3 course meal & somehow they forgot my first meal (caviar)…. Very disappointed. I don’t recommend this place for special celebrations.

                                                          We four ordered different plates during DineLA Week this year. Every last drop of everything we ate was absolutely delicious. You might think that a place as upscale as The Penthouse would be absurdly expensive but the Dine LA menu is not only wonderful, the portions are truly generous. The only complaint I have is that I really don't find anything to love with dragonfruit on their fruit platter. My friends wisely ordered profiteroles as their dessert choice, which again, were outstanding. I barely ever eat red meat, so I ordered the Wagyu burger, and I loved it every bite and cleaned my plate. My friends raved about the choice of mushroom soup. I ordered the crispy tuna rice and was wowed. I bring people to The Penthouse when I want them to see their beautiful views of Santa Monica atop the Huntley Hotel. It never disappoints, in terms of view, service and food.
