   We dine at the Red Lion Inn to celebrate special occasions. This time the experience was good but not great as it usually is. The service was missing "the little things". The table lamps are a nice touch but ours was dim. I suspect the battery is low. I tried all the switch settings but I saw someone at another table take it on himself to switch his dim lamp with a fresh one at an unoccupied table. Lamps at other tables didn't seem to be on at all. Someone should keep on top of that. It looks odd if some of the lamps aren't working the same. Our server took a long time, especially with dessert, and did not seem as attentive as we are used to from the Red Lion Inn. We needed a water refill and many times he passed by our table without checking. We saw other servers go to other tables proactively with water pitchers and we have had this done for us on previous visits. On a less personal note, I heard people at two different tables react to the restrictiveness of the menu and at least one person at each of these tables ended up ordering from the tavern menu, which has much more approachable options. We might well have done so ourselves as none of the first courses appealed to us. I might have needed it if the special hadn't appealed to me as a main course. The issue is that people don't know that this option is available. The only reason I knew it was available was because on a previous visit I asked the host/hostess when I noticed the turkey dinner was absent from the menu for the first time. I would suggest a single line on the dining room menu (and on the online menu on the web site) that says something like: "The tavern menu is also available in the dining room; please ask your server if interested." Having that option clearly present would make it feel less like the customer is asking for something special.

   We have visited the Red Lion Inn numerous times over the years and it’s always been just ok. This most recent visit was not great. We had the asparagus purée soup du jour, clam chowder which seems to come from a can, turkey sandwich that was ordered with stuffing, and came without (still billed for it even though server was made aware we didn’t get it) bbq chicken sandwich, fish & chips which were enjoyed, steak frites, which are $40! and only served with frozen shoe string fries, no vegetable. Very lackluster. $300 for 3 kids & 3 adults to have lunch. Honestly, we would have enjoyed a meal at the 99 for half the price. Nice place to visit and have a glass of wine on the front porch and take in the beauty of the quaint village of Stockbridge.

   We had a miserable experience on Mother’s Day. Firstly, what was advertised on the online menu wasn’t there. Secondly, we waited over an hour and a half for our food. When the food came out, it was burnt and not especially flavorful, even the filet mignon at $65! They tried to make it up to us with free bread (very little bread) and dessert but we still paid over $250 for a disastrous experience. The Red Lion used to be our go to place for special events, but never again. Consider yourselves warned.

   This is my second time visiting the red lion Inn on Mother’s Day. My first experience was very nice. This experience was not. We were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. The waitstaff was very hard to find during our meal. In fact at the end of our meal, we couldn’t find anybody to give us a check and we almost walked out. I had to grab a different waitress in order to get our check because our waitress disappeared. The menu was unique, and the scallops that I ordered were pretty good. However, usually when you have a unique menu like this, you have at least one item for those who are picky eaters, especially for a brunch. This menu did not have anything for those who were just looking for a simple breakfast. The atmosphere was nice and as expected on a busy Mother’s Day. We traveled from about an hour and a half away to go here and unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations that were elevated from our first visit.

   Our latest visit to the red lion Inn was excellent. My husband had a problem with the seating and the host, John, went and got another table for us and set it up. It was perfect for us. We also wanted something that wasn’t on the menu, and they accommodated us. Our waiter was professional, attentive, and personable. We highly recommend the red lion in.

   We always greatly enjoy both lunch and/or dinner in Widow Bingham's Tavern, where we had lunch today. It's a warm and rustic room that envelops the visitor in the history of the Inn and the Berkshires. Meals are consistently well done and the menu evolves with the seasons. Let the ambiance soak in and enjoy a hearty repast in the Berkshires at the welcoming and relaxing Red Lion Inn.

    You can request the Tavern menu in the Main Dining Room! They still have their amazing Turkey dinner available . Such a lovely place to go .
