Established in 2012, The Root Cellar is an organic restaurant in London Ontario’s historic Old East Village serving local farm-to-fork fare. Part of the Forest City Worker Co-operative and closely aligned with On The Move Organics and London Brewing Co-operative, we pride ourselves on working in the neighborhood we live in and love, while serving up the best of our local foodshed.

Our mission is to change the food system that affects all of us. We believe that food is political, that the choices we make about food -- what we choose to eat and whom we choose to support by doing so -- resonate through our community, economy, and planet. At the foundation of this project is a commitment to invigorating our community, discovering the plenitude of our local foodshed, supporting sustainable agricultural practices, and working cooperatively.

    We brought friends from out of town. They loved the experience and thought the food was some of the best they have had. The service was terrific and our server offered helpful explanations and alternatives for certain items.

    Visitors from out of town. Food was great - both what we ate and the other dishes we saw other diners having. Service fantastic and knowledgeable.

    Food was amazing. Server was knowledgeable of everything on the food and beverage menu. Vegan cheesecake is a must!

    The food and ambience lived up to the reviews and description. Everything we tried was fresh and amazing.

    I really enjoyed the fish of the day but would have like the plate to be more colourful. My husband thought the curry could have been a little hotter. Ambience was great, good value. We would go again. Great location near the Aelion Hall.

    We have had many delicious lunches at the Root Cellar over the years. Our group of 8 chose Root Cellar for a celebratory dinner. About 6 tables with customers when we arrived. Several staff were chatting with each other, 2 on cell phones. Staff serving the table beside us looked at our table several times but said nothing. It took 15 minutes to have our server come to our table, but it may have taken longer had we had not flagged her down. Person behind the bar stared into space and took her time pouring draft beer. Another 10 minutes. My bison burger as usual was delicious but fries were cold. The special was not hot and lacked flavour, too much batter on the fish and cold fries. Salads lacked flavour. Beer was delicious. Had the food been exceptional as it has been previously, our rating of Root Cellar would have been better but based on poor, unacceptable service, it will be a while before we all visit again.

    It's always awesome there! Our server was fantastic! Food was delicious, as was the wine!!!

    Yes, it’s good that there are restaurants that serve local organic food. That still means you have to cook and de-stem the kale, fully cook the rice, etc. Not impressed.

    Great fresh and local food. Service was very attentive and the atmosphere is light and fun in a nice retro setting. Would suggest that you consider pizza warming trays or serving on a warm pizza stone at the table as the amazing thin crust pizza loses heat quickly once it is brought from the kitchen. A fine eating experience and we'll be back.
