The origin of The Story Café emerged from the mantra “There is a story in everything”
So in 2018 when we fell upon a 30 year old warehouse, we saw the potential to transform the abandoned space into a warm, hospitable, unique eatery. Through consistent innovation, research and dedication we managed to blend our affinity for coffee, music, food and antique into a ambient mélange of vintage and nostalgia. Today, we proudly present our eatery to newcomers and are considered a staple in the Richmond community!

Being told you have to pay extra for Parmesan cheese, when you order a pasta dish? That’s a first. Ordered wings- but they don’t offer a blue cheese or a dip? An extensive drinks list, but no NA beers? Our waiter seemed liked he cared more about talking to his “bro’s” then taking care of his customers. The staff seemed more like a frat house and less like a service provider. This place is a no bueno for someone who has over 200 favourable reviews on OpenTable.

The service was excellent, the food cooked to perfection, I would describe as authentic Mediterranean. Nothing to fault with the food or service. We were a group of 4. Seated on the covered patio. The people sitting next to the awning tarp could feel a draft, but easily remedied by changing seats with the people on the inside. Would not recommend a person with mobility issues be seated next to awning side.

We had fun at Story Cafe on a Thursday night. There was a vocalist and his pianist playing for the diners that night. We enjoyed the food, the seafood linguini and the mushroom burger were delicious~~ The drinks were great!! We would definitely come back again~

The ‘half price wine’ was disappointing as only applied to a small selection off the wine list. Lobster with gnocchi was delicious ( again) however the duck confit pizza was not that flavourful and had a lot of crust. The singer/musician had a beautiful voice and presence but the volume was too loud. No mention was made of a tap beer list nor were we offered coffee, tea, hot water or dessert. Nonetheless it’s a unique spot and we’d come back again.

We were there for Valentine’s Day. It was a set menu, which was good but we actually booked for their normal menu and no notice was provided. The service was a bit rough to start - 35 minutes with only water as it looked like we got missed at first. Once they started it was good. Servers could have used a bit more time practising the food descriptions or not do it at all. The food was all good, we had to leave after 2 hours and 15 minutes and had to get the desserts to go. They didn’t travel well but they looked okay. We’d try again on a non-valentine day.
