We were treated like Queens Such a wonderful time was had by all. Umi restaurant was convenient to get to. Our waiter: Damien, was excellent at recommendations of wines for entrees, to the description of tantalizing flavors noted on the menu. Hard to say what was best. The Curry was a hit, popcorn soup amazing, abalone in the beautiful shell, just to name a few. Abalone needs to be soft and the delicate nature of it needs to be enhanced.\nLobster is perfectly done tender and the strong flavors of the forbidden rice/risotto and sauce is very good a bit over salted but again the sauce tends to overpower the lobster and not compliment it.\nThe ribeye and tenderloin were both very good. Well prepared not to large of a cut perfectly prepared. The rice side dish was too wet and the breadfruit not appetizing. Fluffy rice or baked potatoes would be better side\nThe seafood curry was well prepared well balanced. Unique and delicious!\nDessert, called Umi, was another unique surprise.\nWe appreciated that the beautifully presented portions were on the small side so we did not have to choose between overeating or “take-home” boxes for once.\nOur server, Nathan, was friendly and attentive and we could tell all that all the staff— the hostess, sommelier and chef— all took a personal interest in making diners feel welcomed and appreciated. We were treated like Queens Such a wonderful time was had by all. Umi restaurant was convenient to get to. We parked at Halekulani Hotel and had a drink by the ocean, was able to walk across the street to Umi’s. The hostess seated us and was truly knowledgeable on recommendations for our table. Our waiter: Damien, was excellent at recommendations of wines for entrees, to the description of tantalizing flavors noted on the menu. Hard to say what was best. The Curry was a hit, popcorn soup amazing, abalone in the beautiful shell, just to name a few. The mango popsicle and other desserts were so delicious.\nAs the evening was winding down the Chef, Vikram Garg stopped by our table to chat, recommended Tequila Suprise after dinner drink, what a delight that was. Girls' night out was a hit. Thanks, Umi for setting up the bar for the next Girls Night outing. The interior design is sleek and modern with a touch of Japanese influence. But the food is the star of the evening. Umi branded Imperial Osetra caviar served with a rich burdock root dip that paired perfectly with the caviar. Each of the dishes in the Umi Tasting menu was not only beautiful but very tasty and the wine paring was also very good. The scallop namasu was served in a delicious dashi broth and the Abalone was tender and loaded with Umami flavor. The butter poached lobster and generous portion of ribeye steak were also excellent. The famous Umi dessert was like a work of art and the Mango popsicle was delicious and definitely my favorite. I loved the Mother’s Day set menu as well as the added caviar course. Everything was outstanding. Just a note. If you are local and try to self park the Halepuna Hotel will charge you $36 to self park. Chef Garg is really the best when it comes to fine dining in Hawaii. I loved the Mother’s Day set menu as well as the added caviar course. Everything was outstanding. Just a note. If you are local and try to self park the Halepuna Hotel will charge you $36 to self park. If you valet park it is free.

We had one of the best meals of the last couple of years. The food was exquisite without being too fussy or overdone.
