I wanted to really love this restaurant, especially based on other reviews. I am a big fan of Venus gin, but of all things I was disappointed with their cocktails! Ambience B It is nice, clean and modern. Service. B We were quickly seated and were paid attention to most of the time Cocktail. D I asked for a classic gin and tonic and had a choice of three different gins that day. Cocktail came in pretty quickly and looked great with the right amount of ice and accoutrements. However, although I could taste the Venus Gin (it was on the light side though- maybe because of happy hour?) , the tonic used was 100% totally flat. I told the waitress who immediately apologize and came back with what I thought was a new drink, but she explained that the bartender was still checking to see if the tonic canister was flat, but in the meantime, she added soda water to make it more bubbly.(????!!!!!!!). No, that is certainly not what i wanted. What made things worse is that the ice used seemed made with unfiltered water. Ice had a very pronounced tap water taste which ruined the “cocktail”. Eventually, they credited my drink, but not because it was not properly made. It was because they somehow “lost” my fish and chips order in the kitchen. ( more on that below). Food:B We started with the roasted Brussels sprout appetizer which our server recommended. It came in very quickly and was good. My only gripe was that the brussels sprouts were much larger than you would see other restaurants which meant that some of them were not really cooked properly After 30 minutes (!) next came to fish and chips which my wife thought was one of the best ones she’s ever had. The portions were big and a batter was very well done. They use halibut which is a premium fish. French fries were hot and crispy. The issue was that our order was initially lost in kitchen, and after 20 minutes, she came back to apologize and had to resubmit the order. Hence credit on cocktail

A great meal with fabulous service, in a gorgeous setting. I cannot recommend this highly enough to do it justice!!

The setting is lovely and the oceanside being feet away a real plus, but we’ve been here (Rio Del Mar) a couple of times and while the food has been good, the service has really not been what you expect from someplace this expensive but without a lot of customers. We’ve been “forgotten” for long periods of time by waitstaff, not had people return with what we asked for (to-go boxes), and just generally felt a little neglected. With a little better training, this place could be a real gem.

Beautiful newly remodeled space, right across from the Rio Del Mar beach. We had a great friendly waitress who served everything smoothly and promptly. All was good, from the cocktails and appetizer (crab hush puppies) to our entrees, and then coffee and dessert. An excellent experience.

It was a bad night for the restaurant and they did the best they could but it was not great. The chef didn’t show up so the assistant chef was in the kitchen by himself and there were no buss people. It took an hour to get our starters and 2 hours to get our food. I had a hamburger and it was quite small and the bun was really tuff. It came with about 15 French fries. What really irritated me was the 3% they charged on top of our $300 meal to use a credit card. California. Law was passed so that they can no longer tag a surcharge so this is how they add the surcharge now and it is even more hidden. The servers were great but I won’t be back.
