When envisioning our restaurant, the team at Visitation Hotel knew we’d need to craft something truly special; a welcoming space where guests and locals alike could enjoy locally sourced cuisine, inspired cocktails, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

The result is Wye Oak Tavern.

We are big fans of the Voltaggio brothers and were excited to try their new restaurant. This place did not live up to expectations. Service was disappointing. Dishes were not cleared and water glasses not filled. Multiple staff members walked by but did not check in. We waited an hour for our food and when the food finally came our food was barely warm and we were missing a couple of items. Our waitress was very nice but otherwise disappointing.

Keep in mind that all parking on site is valet only, and the signage isn’t great to tell you that. Build in time to find street parking. The space is beautiful, but very noisy. The food was excellent, except for a few small items. The popover was hard, too doughy and not very good. It felt like it had been sitting around too long. The hush puppies were great either - not much flavor and too dry/mealy. The filet mignon and rockfish were great, and the cioppino sauce in the rockfish dish was incredible! It was the star of the night. The apple dumpling was good, but could have used more granola to add extra crunch. The service was wonderful, and everything was timed extremely well. We would certainly return.

Our first visit to Wye Oak was a mixed bag. Drinks and service were great. The Visitation seafood platter was a standout - omg the shrimp was SO GOOD. The other apps were less successful. The beet pastrami was interesting but a small portion . The steak tartare was excellent but had WAY too much horseradish cream. Some balance would have been nice. Entrees were disappointing. Our party had the filet, the ribeye, the rockfish, and the prime rib - everything was severely underseasoned and really detracted from the good preparation. The prime rib would have been absolutely stellar with some flaky salt on top. The sides we ordered were all winners, though: brussels sprouts, beef fat fries, mashed potatoes, and shells & cheese. Desserts were also great - the chocolate chip cookies (ironically with flaky salt on top) were amazing. Unsure if I would go back for entrees, but might consider just getting drinks, seafood, sides, and dessert next time.

The service was wonderful well trained & friendly staff. The food was good not great I expected more expected to be wowed. The noise level is really loud it’s a beautiful place and love the old church with that comes the acoustics of a church be aware.

The appetizer (crab cakes with jalapeno peppers) was very good. The swordfish was exceptional. Beautiful presentation on the dessert but taste was nothing great. Cocktails exceptional. Service beyond exceptional. As for ambiance, we sat in the mezzanine which seemed a bit quieter. Music could have been a bit more interesting for such an upscale restaurant. However, it is a beautiful location.

Great dining experience. The ambiance is fun. The building was a Catholic girls school with a long history. Closed awhile ago and has been resurrected as a top notch restaurant. My wife and I both noted the great job done to keep some of the impressive architecture and icons while modernizing the overall look. We sat in the mezzanine (choir) and had a phenomenal view of the place. We started with cocktails and were very impressed with the offering. I had a gin based drink flavored with barsol pisco and raspberry, while my wife had a bourbon, rum, honey, and grapefruit flavored drink. We'd recommend both. Food was top notched and rather innovative. We started with a chicken liver pate that was then fried and served with an onion jam and waffles. Highly recommend. Entrees were short ribs for my wife and prime rib for myself. Both done perfectly. Sides are separate (ala carte). We had mac-n-cheese which was top notch as well as broccoli which was paired with pesto, absolutely worth trying. Service was prompt, professional, and engaging. Our waiter Ben was the quintessential professional. They have a sommelier, Steve, who was able to recommend an Oregon pinot noir that paired very well. Only watch out is the outing will be pricy. Special occasions seem to be the vibe. Overall, top notch. We will be back as the experience was gratifying.
