   All we heard was Zazu is the best!! So of course, we were excited to dine there on our only evening in Quito.. ( we also made reservations at Zero Lab, cancelled them and sorry we did), but back to the unfortunate experience at Zazu.. Bread came with an apology from the server.. “ I’m sorry but tonight we only have brown bread “ Then the butter…garlic butter..I asked for plain butter, they said they didn’t have..?? No butter? The duck confit was so tough .. we couldn’t cut it. The vegetables were highly salted. The stars are solely for the ambiance..lovely.

   Zazu had high reviews, but in honesty, we were underwhelmed by the food. It was BEAUTIFULLY plated and served, the recipes were innovative, and the ambiance lovely, but the food was just not that tasty and certainly not worth the price (except for the cauliflower/broccoli salad, which was amazing!) I would love to give a higher rating because the service was so good, but the food was bland, at least most of what we tried).

   The room is lovely, smart but understated. The food was very good but the portions much to big for a taster menu. It was a shame for us that only a couple of the staff spoke English, but it is in Quito, so no criticism there. The service was not so good. All the staff worked hard and were pleasant, but it was not at the standard I would expect from a high class restaurant. There was very little explanation of the various dishes - on two occasions no explanation at all. There was no explanation about any of the wines on the wine flight other than the name on the label. One course was served while one of us was in the restrooms. Overall, we did enjoy it, the food was interesting and definitely had an Ecuadorian style. It was good value and the ambience was good.

   Amazing one star Michelin restaurant, which deserves a second star. Everything was just perfect!

   We both enjoyed the vegetarian tasting menu. The food is a creative spin on Ecuadorian cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. It is expensive, so if you’re looking for inexpensive Ecuadorian food, this is not it. We truly enjoyed our experience and the staff is excellent.

   Excellent restaurant. Wonderful food. Impeccable service. Fine and exquisite service. Tasty from the starter, main course and dessert. Great selection of wines. I recommend it.

    This was the best meal we have had in Quito! This restaurant is not to be missed! Food is delicious using best and freshest ingredients! Beautiful presentation and service is impeccable.
