It was Mother's Day so busy. Luckily there was a car park attendant on the gate to let us in and advise us where to park the car. Ramped access into the premises was helpful for my mum. We received a warm welcome and the staff were very friendly and polite. We met the person in charge, Cilla, who checked in to make sure we were having a good time which was a nice touch. It was a set menu being Mother's Day so I'm guessing there are other choices on a normal day. The portions were huge and well presented. Our only concern was they were a bit too big, it would've been good to offer a choice of portion size for the main course. It would've been nice, as it was Mother's Day, to offer all mums a little treat, I've known other places offer a mini box of chocs or a small plant to take home. We spent £95 for 2 for 3 courses and a soft drink. I would go again and try lunch on a regular day to see what is on offer then.

Lovely venue, although in the middle of no where in my opinion. Service was good as we had early booking. Starters was delicious, the venison kebab, the quails egg I would have preferred it to be a bit runnier in the middle when you cut into it. The sauce was great and good amount just right for the amount. The mix grill was a disappointment due to the small portion size, there was not enough flavour to this dish. The prawn purée was nice, please serve in a flat plate as it will be easier to eat than the round bowl we had it served in. Ambience was nice. Mains were ok the meat dish was not spicy enough as per details on the menu, the dhansak was lovely, the peshwari naan was yummy. The duck dish would be better to be cooked to one’s tastebud, I would have preferred this a little less cooked. Dessert- we didn’t enjoy in the way it was described on the menu, however the cake for the birthday was nice along with the other complimentary little pot we had. A lovely evening full of lovely food

We had an enjoyable lunch at the 'spirits tasting ' event, the starter was particularly good. We were given a voucher as a gift and had not previously dined at Haywards. We enjoyed the fixed lunch menu and the presentation from Adam representing Essex Spirits. However, we would have preferred a wine tasting experience as we rarely drink spirits.
