Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. The Saloon is a Philadelphia neighborhood bar and restaurant with a national reputation. And the parking is FREE!

                                                                                                    I have been wanting to go to Saloon Restaurant for a long time since it was one of my parents favorites. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. The appetizers were very good especially the stuffed poblano peppers. I was between two entrees the veal parm and the fettuccini lobster amatriciana. Our waitress recommended the veal parm but said she could have the kitchen do a side of the fettuccine amatriciana, no lobster. I agreed, the menu states that it comes with sharp provolone, yet I was charged an extra $10 AND wasn’t given sharp provolone but grated mozzarella. When I asked the waitress about this she told me that there ordering system only allowed to her to put mozzarella but she had told the kitchen to put sharp provolone. There was no sharp provolone within 10 miles of that pasta. So, I am pretty sure that she wasn’t being truthful and instead of making it right left it as is. My husband ordered the porterhouse steak which had been frozen and probably thawed in a microwave because there was absolutely no juice. This was a $64 entree, seriously? In addition to that he asked if he could substitute the mashed potatoes for spinach, her answer was , “yes.” What she failed to mention was there would be a $6.00 up charge for the spinach, which was frozen not fresh. After we complained, she took it off the bill. The thing that was frustrating was the fact that there is absolutely no mention of an up charge for substitutions on the menu. She was truthful about desserts that only crème brûlée was made in house. That was good. The coffee was not fresh it had definitely been sitting around. The martini was very good, hats off to the bartender and the bus boy, super nice young man. Overall the Saloon is living on its reputation from many years ago. Overrated and will never go back.

                                                                                                    I was so excited I finally got to try The Saloon! The food was outstanding and the drinks were amazing! Our Server Bella was perfect and very attentive and sweet! Already made another reservation! Can’t wait to come back! 10/10

                                                                                                    Has been and still is one of the finest restaurants in Philadelphia. Fabulous bar service, outstanding service, and superb food. The lobster Francese, bone in veal chop Parmesan and pastas are the best. save room for their desserts too.

                                                                                                    8pm reservations on a Saturday night. Place was packed. Our table wasn’t ready. Didn’t wait long, maybe 10 minutes tops. I ordered the tuna carpaccio as an appetizer and the fettuccine lobster amatriciana for dinner. The food was delicious. They were out of tiramisu for dessert which was a huge bummer. Ordered a chocolate chip cannoli and a double espresso. Both delicious. Really wanted tiramisu though. It was on the loud side but not over the top. The decor is really nice and the lighting was perfect: Biggest complaint, our water glasses sat empty for an extended period of time. Would we return…yes. There’s more on the menu we would like to try.

                                                                                                    Incredible evening as usual. A Philadelphia classic that gets even better with age. Food is only surpassed by the quality of the team!
