Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. The Saloon is a Philadelphia neighborhood bar and restaurant with a national reputation. And the parking is FREE!

                                                                                                    Excellent on all counts! Never disappoints. Kitty was attentive and informative. One of the best for a special occasion, yet any time there makes it special!

                                                                                                    The restaurant was insanely hot, and although I can appreciate efficiency, the food was coming out so fast, that we didn’t have time to breath in between entrees. The food was, just, good I’d say and especially considering the price. The chicken Milanese cutlet was nice and thin, and tender, however not super tasty. The pasta seafood dish my boyfriend had was pretty skimpy on the seafood. It’s almost as if it was put in a blender before dropping it in the sauce - you had to really look to find a piece. We were a bit disappointed after the hype that Saloon gets. We have visited many higher end Italian restaurants in Philly, and this ranked below each of them. Again, it was good, just not excellent. I will say, our waitress was great, very accommodating, spent just enough time at and away from our table and knew her stuff.

                                                                                                    Sat upstairs. Sat night noise about as expected. Food was, as always, outstanding. My wife and I both had veal dishes. Our server Taylor was attentive, friendly and professional.

                                                                                                    Incredible service and food. Ambiance is old school Philly. Saloon is one of the only restaurants in Philly with ample valet service and always know I can drive and find a spot.

                                                                                                    Waited 50 minutes for a table when I had a reservation booked one month in advance. Proper service etiquette would have been to take something off of the bill or give something complimentary for the wait. Nothing was done to make up for this.

                                                                                                    We were celebrating our anniversary on 1/11 and the bus boy tried to clear my plate twice before I was even done eating, by the 3rd time I again told the bus boy I was not done eating & he told me he was instructed by the manager to do so. When I was finally finished I let the bus boy know so he could finally clear my plate. We hadn’t been there for even 45 mins at that point so it wasn’t a time issue. Since I’m now writing a review my petite filet was a bit over cooked. Yes I called the next working day & spoke to Sandy the administrative manager and was told that a bus boy was let go from the evening we were there & she couldn’t confirm if it was the same bus boy that serviced our table & they were sorry for the inconvenience. So was a bus boy really let go or was I just being blown off?! I rarely write reviews but it was our anniversary dinner & unfortunately this incident bothered us, well me particularly so badly that I had to. I was extremely disappointed & wanted to enjoy our evening at the Saloon for our anniversary & sadly we did not. We won’t be going back again.
