Sansei, meaning third generation, is a locally owned contemporary Japanese Restaurant offering new wave sushi. The force behind the food is Chef/Owner Dave "DK" Kodama. An Oahu native, he is fearless when it comes to flavors and one of the most adventurous chefs you will meet. At Sansei he has combined his Japanese heritage with Hawaii's incredible ethnic mix and flavors he experienced in his travels to create a New Wave Sushi. Japanese-inspired Pacific Rim, Contemporary Japanese type of cuisine. Call it whatever you like, what you will taste are the unique combinations of flavors and textures. Including our famous award winning dishes the panko ahi, shrimp dynamite, and Dk famous crab ramen. The food will never disappoint!

We love Sansei. We have been going to Sansei on Maui for years and was delighted to see they have a restaurant on the Big Island. Great food and drinks! Highly recommend.

Nice people but variation observed between sushi rolls and too much rice versus filling. Would go again but PQR is off balance.

Be not fooled! This location of the restaurant is the polar opposite of the wonderful Sansei on Maui.

Food was mediocre. My food came out 15 mins earlier than my husbands dish and he ordered the ahi tuna is it had 5 slices of seared tuna on his plate. It wasn’t even a full ahi tuna steak. My dish wasn’t bad but he said the tuna didn’t have much flavor. Waited for the check 10-15 mins.

Ramen is good, sushi is ok. I had a salmon and prawn dinner, overcooked, dry. Server was very good. Greeter was indifferent.

The food was good, - however one entree was served about seven to ten minutes before the other and it was lukewarm. The short rib was very good. For the price point I’d anticipated a bit more ambiance- this isn’t a place for a romantic dinner. The sushi offerings looked good and there was a great selection.

Not sure what is going on in this location. We usually go to sansei in Maui. Once we were seated and ordered, 3 of our 4 sushi rolls arrived in less than 1 minute. Great if you're in a hurry but obviously these had been premade and waiting for someone to order them. The flavors were off on everything. The crab ramen had no flavor and no truffle or peppers in it. It was just veggie broth. Had to ask them to take it back and add the correct ingredients. I don't think we would go back to this location again. The server was very sweet and felt terrible.
