A traditional New England restaurant with modern touches, Scales is located on Maine Wharf next to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal. Enjoy classic fried seafood as well as locally sourced land fare, while enjoying the view of a quintessential working Maine harbor.

Bar seating is available for dinner service by reservation only. Please check with the host to inquire about bar seating.

Our lounge is open for cocktails and raw bar every day beginning at 4:30pm Sunday - Thursday, and 4:00pm Friday - Saturday.

We are only able to seat complete parties at this time. Please note: our patio reservations are weather dependent. If we need to make a change because of weather, we will call you on the day of your reservation to cancel or reschedule your booking.

Dinner at Scales is always a great experience. Regardless of what you order for your entree, one should always order the anadama bread to start - classically New England and it’ll start your evening on the right foot!

The food here is next level. We started with steamed clams and the broth was SO delicious. We’re from New England and have high expectations on seafood and everyone’s fish was cooked perfectly. We had haddock, fried clams, and fluke and it was all prepared perfectly. The butterscotch sundae for dessert is a must! Sadie took excellent care of us and we’ll be back on our next visit to Portland!

Vibrant ambience, outstanding service, fantastic dishes. The scallops and halibut were phenomenal, but we could have just eaten the rolls and cauliflower / romesco app all day.

We come here every December for our first night back in town! It never disappoints! Hands down one of the best seafood restaurants we’ve ever been to.

We celebrated our elopement with dinner at Scales. From the moment we walked in the door the service was outstanding. I had the halibut and my wife had the lobster frites and we were blown away by the food - outstanding flavors and cooked to perfection. We were also really impressed with the cocktails and the mocktails (they have options for non-drinkers). We highly recommend - when we are in Portland, we’ll be back!

It was a dark and stormy night. Seriously. It was. And there was no better place to be than Scales. We valeted the car and made a quick dash inside. Sat at the bar. Elise was quick with the drinks - a Makers Mark Old Fashion and a merlot blend for my companion. I had the fisherman’s stew - a signature dish at Scales, and a good choice for a rainy, cold December night. While the cast iron skillet always arrives with some risk, aren’t we all tired for being served lukewarm entrees? Yes, we are. So we managed the risk with the piping hot rolls, the fisherman’s stew and baked haddock. No mouthful disappointed. Dessert was a sundae with Carmel corn and all the fixings - I assume all made in-house. Perfect for two. We’ll be back, but probably not soon enough.

The clover bread is to die for, and the oysters were fantastic. All three of the entrees we ordered (scallops, black cod, and halibut) were unbelievably delicious for the first few bites, but by the end do become a bit overwhelming with salt and intensity. Would definitely go back and try some other dishes.
