Teatro, or ‘theatre’ in Italian, pays homage to our restaurants location in the Calgary arts and theatre district. Celebrating 25 years in 2018, Teatro has been serving contemporary Italian cuisine in a fine dining atmosphere. Housed in the historic Dominion Bank (est.1911), our award winning wine cellar hosts over 10,000 bottles and features 1100 labels, with a focus on the fine wines of Italy and Bordeaux. Enjoy artisanal cocktails at our stylish bar, reserve a table for your next business meeting, or indulge in a 5 course Chef's Tasting Menu . We also offer both private and semi-private dining options for large groups.

    The building is gorgeous and the service we received was mostly good although we waited for long intervals between courses with empty glasses. The food was disappointing. Everything was so salty that we needed more water. It seemed as though the chef had never tasted fine food and was incapable of creating a dish that didn’t have the same saltiness of an order of McDonalds French fries. That’s kind of mean, but I would have rather had the fries. The plating was pretty, and we sampled six different dishes and none of them made us want more. The feature fish was a light flaky fish served with a heavy brown gravy and a side of risotto that might have been porridge. We had waited quite a while to receive our main dishes and ate what we could, but it felt like we were just eating out of hunger and not for the enjoyment of the space or the quality of the food. When our server asked how the first few bites were, we tried to be kind, but she apologized and brought us a sorbet after to cleanse our palates from the saltiness of the dishes. She was great at her job, and my guess is that l this wasn’t the first time she had heard complaints about saltiness of the food from customers. I hope she finds a job in a restaurant where she can be proud of the food she brings to her guests. Prices were high for the quality of food. There are so many excellent restaurants in Calgary, but sadly, this isn’t one of them. We won’t be returning.

    Seating in the Opera room was cold, decoration was lack lustre and the service was very slow on that side of the restaurant. We had a drink forgotten and our main course was almost skipped over, luckily we were paying attention. Food was beautiful, the kitchen certainly did not disappoint!

    The ambience of the restaurant was amazing. Food wasn’t outstanding but was very good. The lobster scallop lasagna was a hit too salty. Tiramisu was amazing. Food was a bit expensive for what you get.
