IN THE BEAUTIFUL GEORGIAN CITY OF BATH, Chequers has been the central meeting point for the community on River Street, Royal Crescent and Circus for countless years.

I booked a table for me and my wife from the moment we stepped in the staff couldn't have been more friendlier excellent service from beginning to the time we finnished. There sunday roast is probably one of the best i have tried throughly recomend it as for there desert there sticky pudding is without doubt amazing if you have a sweet tooth

Very disappointing, ambiance was lacking. We ordered our very ordinary pub roast, vegetables were poor, lots of people waiting for their next seating, crowded, noisy. No time for dessert and coffee. Aston the manager was clearly fed up and it was only 1.30pm

Lovely venue and great atmosphere. Had a minor problem with the food but was sorted quickly and sympathetically. Great service

We had a wonderful meal here for my partner’s birthday. Food was superb and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!

What can we say? From the moment we set foot through the door we were welcomed and given top quality service. The female server (didn’t catch her name) was really knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the food, it was clear she wasn’t just regurgitating a menu script and provided some really good recommendations. The food was amazing and a real cut above. My scallops were delicious as was the partridge. I really can’t speak highly enough of the venue, the food and especially the wonderful staff. Thank you we will be back!

Wow we were so impressed. Every thing about our service and food was 10/10. We arrived early and were happy to grab a drink or 2 at the bar but our table was ready. Therefore we ate before planned and wow. We searched and searched for a lovely roast in Bath and I’m so glad we came across this place. The beef, roasties, sides, service.. nothing could have been better. Highly recommend to anyone looking to book!

We had an ok Sunday lunch today. The pub is our local and we have enjoyed dining there for a few years now but today it just felt a bit off. I had called earlier Tomkins my seating preference had been ok and was told they weren’t able to honour it and kept repeating the policy very prematurely when I was just enquiring. I mentioned it was my son’s birthday and could they do something to mark it when the desserts came out. They said yes they could put a candle in the pudding and I said that would be great. We arrived some hours later and our table wasn’t ready. We ordered and enjoyed our food which was of a good standard but the vegetable portions were much smaller than previously. Our waiter was lovely but was keen to clear the table and so we felt unnecessarily rushed. The puddings came out - no candle. It was really not much to ask nor to expect it being done. It feels like there’s been some change of staffing and more pressure put on staff to get people through their meals and also economies made on some portions. We hope it was just a bit of a bad day as the food remains fresh and delicious.
