The Duncombe Arms is a beautiful, traditional country pub situated at the heart of the lovely rural village of Ellastone on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border. Located on the edge of the Peak District near the towns of Ashbourne and Uttoxeter it is a great place to visit providing a delightful setting in which to enjoy a drink, some lovely food, as well as a chat with friends or family.

Come inside and enjoy a roaring log fire, sample our excellent range of beers and wines or enjoy fabulous food from our award-winning chef Scott Law. Or in the summer you can laze in our large garden overlooking the view to Worthy Island Wood.

    Always enjoy my trips out for a meal the Duncombe Arms but our lunchtime meal on Thursday was not up to the standard I normally expect from the pub as the main course had cooled somewhat from kitchen to table. I will put it down to just a bad day and I suspect that it might have been down to understaffing as meals arrived served by the kitchen staff rather than waiting staff. I will return in hope of a better experience as this has been a great pub to eat at over the last 10 years I have been frequenting it.

    Fabulous food! Very busy Sunday lunch and we did have to wait about 20 minutes for our table despite pre booking.

    The heating of the Outside dining room was completely inadequate and it did spoil the otherwise great experience

    Another fantastic experience at the Duncombe, well prepared food from the market menu and, as ever, bullet proof service. If they sold season tickets we've have one!

    The staff, food, and service are impeccable. The Apple Tartin is to die for. You won't be disappointed.

    It is some time since we have eaten at the Duncombe Arms but we had heard good things about the food so decided to try it. Food was good if somewhat overpriced with a good selection of wines by the glass. Service was good. But our evening was spoiled by a group of middle aged men who appeared to be regulars at the bar. We were seated in Johnny’s Bar and couldn’t avoid hearing their conversation which was loud and contained a lot of expletives. We are neither prudish nor killjoys but we do feel that this is not acceptable in a venue which promotes itself as an upmarket dining pub. The manager must have been aware of the tone of the conversation as he was frequently at the bar but appeared unconcerned when we mentioned our dissatisfaction as we left. We will not be returning.

    We stayed one night and had dinner at Duncombe Arms. The accommodation is really lovely - rooms are so well appointed and very clean. Great walk-in shower and one of the most comfortable beds we have slept on in a hotel / guest house. Lovely views from the room with table and chairs outside for when it's not snowing! The meal was outstanding!! One of the nicest rib-eye steaks I have had for along time. Although the wine list appeared shorter than usual with some crossed off, what I had was very good (lovely Malbec to go with the steak). The breakfast was excellent, as was the service throughout. Will be back for sure.
