The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s.
Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. The restaurant serves innovative, traditional and contemporary interpretations of American cuisine with some added international accents, prepared under the direction of Executive Chef John Benjamin. Delicious homemade desserts complete the menus, which are revised several times a year. Outdoor patio dining and fireside dining are available in season.
The restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily, as well as a special breakfast/lunch a la carte menu offered on Saturdays from 11 am to 4pm. Sunday 11am to 3 pm.

Private social and corporate events of various sizes and types may be booked in several unique private spaces within the building. These include weddings, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, retirement parties, class reunions, school functions, memorials, and nearly any type of private event. Corporate meeting spaces are also available. All of the private spaces open out to a private deck or patio. The Hunt Room has a rustic decor with a private pub and dance floor, and features a private entrance. The seasonally tented Hunt Patio is also available for social and corporate events; it is surrounded by rolling lawns and flower gardens with a gazebo.

Service was awful! Our server was rude, had a bad attitude. They didn’t want to be there and didn’t write anything down and then when our order came out it was wrong. It’s unfortunate because the food was very good from what we got. We will try it again and hopefully not the same server.

We had a wonderful evening with surprise carolers. Our meal was delicious, and Georgia was a delightful server.

Food is always good. Really like the new halibut dish on the menu. Service was not great this time, after taking our order our waitress basically disappeared until we were well done with our meal and it took the other waiter in the room to ask how our meal was and offer us dessert. Being the holidays it was a little more crowded and therefore noisier than usual.

Carpet covering old wide plank floors in a colonial inn kills the charm. Shutting off the gas fireplace yet asking if we want desert left a bad vibe. Lastly charging these additional fees for using a credit card will keep me from returning

This may have been one of my worst dining experiences ever. I asked to be put at a table they recommended and was seated between two large parties. We had to shout the entire time to talk to each other it was so loud. Service was slow and at times nonexistent. No one even asked to get us refills. And above all $140 for 3 people for lunch with no alcohol served is absolutely ridiculous. So disappointed!!!

Everything was wonderful. The service, and food was excellent. The room was beautiful with a roaring fire on a cold day. Cannot wait to return.

I’m sorry, the Grain house is not romantic at all. It felt a cross between a sports bar and a cafeteria.

Our group was not as thrilled about this visit (food and service) as we have been in the past times. Maybe because it was post Holiday and there were all lather groups around to be served.
