Casual waterfront dining right on the docks of the Patchogue River, The Oar serves up fresh and delicious steaks and seafood. Chefs prepare specialties like coconut shrimp, 36 oz sizzling prime porterhouse, lobster quesadillas and fresh Bluepoint oysters and little clams which are delivered daily. Two dining rooms are decorated in traditional nautical style. The front wall in made up of French doors that open onto the water, providing dockside open air seating in warm months and picturesque views of the marina year-round. The rear dining room is elegant with raise panel mahogany, white table clothes and blue and white nautical stripe wall paper. We look forward to accommodating your special occasion in the separate catering room. The restaurant stocks full indoor and outdoor bars so you'll never miss a beautiful night at this fun and entertaining spot.

Saturday night reservation was made earlier in the day, so that was nice. Valet parking was nice and the guys were very polite. We arrived a few minutes early and we were seated promptly. We looked over the menu along with drink/dinner specials that all looked interesting. My wife had one of their specialty martinis and I just had a regular gin martini. Both were prepared very well. For apps we ordered their take on oysters casino, that was very good. Also due to the change in weather we also had their soup, the bisque and wedding soup, both very tasty. Our mains were the striped bass special and their slow braised short rib. The bass was cooked to perfection and the short rib was very tender and had a deep flavor. Both were hits. As for dessert, the coffee was fresh brewed but the apple crisp missed the mark as the apples were cut very thick and were hard. We have been to The Oar many times over the summer and sit on their outdoor deck, but we will definitely return over the winter to have another wonderful meal.

Highly recommended.. Food , Service, ambiance, and Staff were all excellent.. Beth , the Bartender, and Kim, our waitress.. Ask for them, for a great experience

First let me say that we have been going to the Oar for many years. The food was always exceptional. WAS…. We both had appetizers, tuna and 1/2 dozen oysters… delicious. For our entrees we both ordered halibut which was cooked perfectly, but… it was served with half a plate of plain white rice! I intended to order a fish over risotto… but no, white rice! So disappointing. As if an afterthought rather than a planned meal. I doubt we will return!

The food was very tasty and good, loved the seared mussels. My wife had the salmon and cooked perfect and I had the duck and was good too. The waitress was excellent.This was my third time there.

Our first time there. Waited for reservations to come back! Waitress was awesome. Friendly welcome! A little confusing to find the entrance into the restaurant. You come into the catering hall. We will be back!!

The food was delicious, my husband and I will absolutely be back. The server was definietly busy, but it was a packed restaurant (never a bad sign). They had an amazing band playing.
