Located in the Old Engine House on the edge of York's Museum Gardens in a riverside setting close to the historic Lendal Bridge, The Star Inn The City has an enviable position, which we aim to match with the best produce God's Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire hospitality for the 'whole package'.

We offer an all day menu which can be enjoyed for both lunch and dinner, as well as serving up breakfast Friday to Sunday, and on Sunday's we serve up our famous Sunday roasts between 12-4pm.

We pride ourselves on being a a food-led celebration destination, with guests being able to enjoy view of the River Ouse from our Garden Room or outside on our riverside terrace. For more intimate occasions we also offer two exclusive Private Dining rooms for celebrations such as graduations, weddings and birthdays.

An after theatre dinner was just perfect, so rare these days to find a good restaurant that delivers a great meal, the star did a superb job delivering great local commodities perfectly cooked

Enjoyed the food but the service was very slow, took 20 minutes before anyone came to take the order. Slightly stale atmosphere as a very busy venue which felt quite cluttered. OK for a one off visit.

Really enjoyed our time at The Star Inn the City. The waitress was extremely helpful and very friendly. The food was delicious and the setting was great.

Very pleased. Thank you. Relaxed and able to enjoy. We were not pushed at any time and probably the best lunchtime experience I have had there. Cheers

Really lovely breakfast, excellent value for money. Staff were very welcoming and attentive, we will definitely be back.

What a pleasure to eat delicious food at a fine restaurant, that not only catered for my husband's several allergies and intolerances, but offered him choices! In fact, five of the starters and six of the main courses either worked straight off or were offered with some alternative ingredients. Thank you for a splendid evening in a lovely environment.

The Sunday menu was decidedly average. Reminded me of a carvery lunch from the 70’s. Rather disappointing given it stresses its connection to a Michelin star restaurant.
