The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    We had fabulous service! Our waitress was so kind and polite and quick to help our party of 20! we had spills, kids orders and cocktails and she was great. We had a reservation for 5:15 on Sunday evening so expected it to be busy but you do have to wait in line for 20 minutes to even check in with your reservation. Our family has been coming to the walnut room for YEARS and this one was great thanks to the staff.

    We go with our family every year as a family tradition. The food is average but the tree is beautiful

    The Walnut Room is a tradition and the big tree is such a beautiful holiday sight. Food is very good. Fries were surprisingly delicious -crispy & seasoned so well. It is very noisy but it's to be expected when you have large groups, young kids and one big open space. Wish the burger had lettuce and tomatoes but the onions were good and the meat itself was yummy. The citrus cranberry chicken salad is delicious and the pot pie is creamy and the puff pastry is so fun. Our waitress Allison was attentive and very nice.

    This was our first time at The Walnut Room, and we had a great time! Jovi was an amazing server. We'll definitely be back!

    The staff was outstanding. They really helped accommodate my mom, who is in a wheelchair and made things as smooth as possible. We really appreciate it. Looking forward to next year :)
