The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    Beautiful atmosphere for Christmas. You just have to go with the mindset that you are there for the experience, not the food or service. Service every year is very poor.

    I am not sure why we continue to go. The food is worse than what’s served at an elementary school cafeteria, the service is horrible (we received half of what we ordered, didn’t have napkins or silverware until our food was cold, never had drink refills), the place is filthy and one of us had hair in their food, and honestly, there’s nothing really special about it. When it was Marshall Fields it was much better. I don’t think it will ever return to what it was. So disappointing.

    Good place to celebrate Christmas with the family. A little overpriced and service okay. We sat far from the tree and I was freezing.

    I’m very happy with my experience at the Walnut Room. It was a Thursday afternoon in December and very busy there. The hostess was very delightful and helpful. The staff was very friendly. Our meals were served fairly quickly after ordering and the food was delicious! The ambiance was festive! Planning to revisit!!

    We had waited all year for this. It was beautiful. We had been there before without the tree, it’s a beautiful restaurant but it was amazing yesterday!
