Our experience at Virginia’s on King was 5-Star. Since it was Thanksgiving day and really nothing open, we ate both breakfast and a late lunch at VOK. We were very impressed with both services and the food quality. The menu was very broad which allowed us to try something different at each seating. The service was even better than the food quality. Tim was honestly one of the most attentive and friendly waiters I have ever experienced. If you are traveling to Charleston make sure to hit VOK and request Tim.

We were sat upstairs in what seemed to be an attic space or at most an afterthought to be able to seat more people. We were grateful for VOK to be open Thanksgiving morning as we are from out of town so we could at least eat something. We had to walk past the dirty smelly restaurant old rug/kitchen mop smell to get upstairs and then were sat in an empty room of old tables and chairs. Maybe they’ve used this as a venue space in the past? The acoustics were horrible. We had to listen to one very loud girl speak about her horribly racist, sexist, (her words) transphobic roommate to her family with no understanding of how loudly she was speaking when everyone else was speaking so only the people they were with could hear. We sat downstairs last year and that was much more enjoyable. The food was just okay. But like I said, we were grateful they were open so we could eat something. VOK has been a tradition for the past couple of years for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning but would we go there because of the food on a normal day? No. Staff are great. Food could use some improvement. I read another review saying the deviled eggs were frozen and that is what I thought when I ordered them last year. Cold and frosty. Did not order them this year. Such a southern disappointment. “Baked” Mac and cheese was room temp when it came out. When we asked for it to be hotter it came back slightly hotter with way more cheese but a weird vinegar taste. Our waitress was great. Food needs help and upstairs ambience needs major help.

Ben was an awesome server! Great personal attention! The food amazing all of it! The fried chicken was best I have EVER had. Truly awesome meal. We will be back!

Was hoping it was going to be really good but was a bit disappointed. Paying an extra 5.50 for a very small bowl of ‘cold’ grits along with my husband’s pancake wasn’t done in the center. Service was great though!

Googled a breakfast place and Virginia’s on King came up first. It did not disappoint. The food was fabulous, the service attentive, and the ambiance traditional Charleston. We will be back and bring friends. Highly recommend anything that comes with grits or get them on the side. Crab cakes were delicious, full of fresh flavor. I can’t say enough about the wait staff. Attentive without being stalkerish and just down home hospitality. Thanks VoK for a wonderful experience!
