For 70 years, the Zodiac at Neiman Marcus in the Downtown Dallas location has been the place to dine in Dallas. Housed on the 6th floor of the flagship store, Stanley Marcus first conceived this restaurant as a convenience for out of town customers who were spending a full day shopping in the store.

                                                                                                                                The Zodiac Room is a Christmas Holiday must but your expectation level should be held in check. You go because it is a Dallas tradition not for the culinary experience. Service always tends to be slow at Christmas time simply because the wait staff are not "regulars" and the venue is notoriously understaffed. The food is good but not spectacular and the rotation of dishes on the buffet table tend to be extremely slow so it's not unusual for one to have to make several return trips if you missed out on the shrimp from the first pass through. The kitchen seems to be extremely stingy in replacing seafood dishes. The greatest disappointment annually is always the wine list and the price to value of the offerings. I've always been puzzled how a restaurant would have a $1k bottle of Cristal or $600+ bottle of Dom to sell but a paucity of descent Cabs. This past Monday my guests and I had only one choice available and that was the Washington state Chateau Ste Michelle. No other cabs were available according to our server. Disappointed we rolled the dice and lost with the little known 2018 Chateau Lassegue Merlot Blend, Saint Emilion Grand Cru. As previously mentioned, the Zodiac Room is a holiday must and I'm hopeful in the coming year it will be a place I will want to have lunch more than just a few times a year.

                                                                                                                                NM continues to offer its fabulous post-Thanksgiving buffet extravaganza which we have been enjoying for 14 years straight. It is an event we always look forward to and to be savored in the delightful Zodiac ambience together with extraordinarily delicious and varied cuisine options. The only challenge is trying to make it to one’s car after consuming the incredible feast, yet a challenge well worth undertaking!
